The History of The Taieri Christian Care Trust

The first meeting was held at Unity House on 27th November 1991, with representatives from most of the Churches in Mosgiel present. A Coordinator was appointed.

Taieri Christian Care took the form of a service provided by all the church people to assist others in the community within areas such as visiting, transport to appointments, cooking and delivering a meal, housework, finance and gardening etc.  This included a food bank which at that time was in the kitchen at the Family Health Counselling Centre. People would come and collect their parcels.

On 20th May 1994, we moved to new premises at Nga Tutukitanga O Taieri (old St Marys School) 51 Church St.  We occupied the front room, storing our food in 2 large cupboards.

In December 1996 we held our first Food Drive and have had an annual food drive on the first Monday of December ever since

In June 1998 we moved to a room in the back of the Mosgiel Methodist Church in Wickliffe St and continue to run our food bank from there.
